  3. Make Path editor the default editor for any variable with paths in it.

The problem with the path editor is that

    1) It can only edit the system path, not the user's path (they are combined by windows)
    2) It's only available for PATH. There are many many other variables that define paths

Why not make it available to any variable. You could have a whitelist of known path variables (e.g. CLASSPATH, MANPATH), and check the values of others to see if they match the pattern of paths separated by semicolons.

  4. Path Editor could suggest Environment variables to replace part of paths

If I use the Add directory button or paste in a path containing substrings in other environment variables, it should point this out and have a button to replace that part of the path with a variable.

    e.g.

C:\Users\MYUSERNAME\subfolder should offer to replace "C:\Users\MYUSERNAME" with "%USERPROFILE%"

  5. Option to display with line breaks

Really liked the way the v1.2.1 displayed long variables with line breaks after each semicolon. Made the display much more readable. Could you please restore that function, at least as an option?

  6. Allow renaming of variable

Sometime it is extremely useful, especially when you made a typo in name of newly created variable

  7. Eveditor should allow the user to define several environments and switch between them easily

I have every development platform and environment known to the mind of man (at least on Windoze) installed, and several that were borrowed from alternate universes. As such, my PATH is totally clogged and near the limit. Installing anything new is a nightmare. What I need is for Eveditor to allow me to define an arbitrary number of environments (perhaps based on environment templates) and easily switch the entire PATH context of my system with one click. I should have a way, perhaps in the sys tray, to see which one is active, and switch at will. Now at any…

  8. command line option to do backup/restore

Plain text of one sort or other (INI style, CSV, ... ) one entry per
line would, IMO, be the most flexible and useful format, which, for
backup, I or an Eveditor option can compress in any of the common zip
formats - zip (most common under Windows, in my experience), gz, 7z.

Two clearly marked sections, one each for the user and system variables.

This function would be most helpful as a command line option so that it
can become part of a script in the backup process for a specific user.

The main goal would be to be…

  9. Eveditor could remember current environment configuration and show what was changed on next launch

Might be useful for tracking changes made by installers (silent PATH modification, etc)
